Days 14, 15 &16

A couple of uneventful days. On Day 14 we stayed at our campsite in Bozeman to wait out the snow storm. I did laundry and made split pea soup in the crockpot. Day 15 we headed out for Glacier National Park. A fellow camper who had just come from there told us that we could still get in to see some of the sights if we used the east entrance. We already knew that the road through the park had been closed for the season. The east entrance would take us to some of the higher points of interest, after which we planned to head for Whitefish. We reached Shelby (near the eastern entrance) in time to set up camp in a rather sparse RV park. The wind had been howling for a good part of the afternoon and by nightfall was blowing a full gale. Bertha was rocking and rolling with us inside. During the night the wind abated and it snowed a little. The next morning, we found that the snow had closed the eastern entrance to the Park, so no Glacier this trip. We gambled on the weather in leaving so late in the season and it has cost us some delays and disappointments. We won't be the first to misjudge our chances this time of year, and' I'm sure we won't be the last. I'm very thankful to be traveling in a motor home instead of a covered wagon. We are warm and dry and have plenty to eat. On Day 16 we drove to Whitefish, which is about 70 miles south of the Canadian border. I have a cousin who lives here, and we haven't seen eachother for about 30 years. We're having dinner at his house tonight which will give us a chance to catch up on what each has been doing. We have 4 days to make it to the resort in Alberta where Jeff has booked a week at his timeshare. If the weather permits, we'll try to see some sights in the area before we give Bertha a rest and spend some time in real beds for a change.
