Cal Nu Colony Rush Starts Feb 5th

The team of brothers led by Dorian Quispe and David Peterson has been working with great vigor to bring our fraternity back to CSU Northridge. They’ve been doing the right thing right. Some brothers are needed to attend the first rush event on Tuesday, February 5th: you can sign up at http://www.joinsae.com/?page_id=12. We have commitments from nearby SAE chapters to provide active Brothers to help rush for us on February 5th, the opening night of IFC Rush at the Student Union with all of the other fraternities.
What’s been going on? The Cal Nu Alumni website at http://calnualumni.com/ has some good summaries and opportunities to help in various ways. Dorian has created a great website focused on SAE’s return to Northridge at http://www.joinsae.com/.
Jim O'Banion, who works for a corporate event production company, will transform our room into a model fraternity house/gentlemen's club lounge. We're running a series of 1/4 page ads in the Daily Sundial every day for the 2 weeks leading up Rush Week. A deal was made with a local coffee house to distribute free coffee on campus for several days before Rush along with informational flyers about SAE coming back to campus. Some young women from other campus organizations to serve as hostesses on opening night of Rush in our "lounge." The new Cockrell Regional Director Kirt Boultinghouse, National Expansion, Director Clark Brown, and Province Chi Archon Howard Wood have agreed to participate. We're giving away a Wii as a door prize. We've gotten about half a dozen advance leads that seem particularly promising, including two transfers who are already initiated active SAEs. The Housing corporation has been donations made to cover the expenses of Rush, with any excess devoted to initiation expenses for the new Colony members/pledges (?). There’s a targeted mailing going out to about 4,000 students who fit a general profile of Sophomore/Junior males with 2.5 GPA or above. There's been lots of internet advertising and considerable response, at least on-line.
As Dorian says, “It is crunch time.”

Norm Remembered

Norm and I were very close for more than forty years. From his days with State Narcotics through his private practice as a PI, we shared many stories and problems that folks experience that Norm was on "top of". He was a brother I could always rely on. Both Linda, her brother Barry Bernstein and I will miss him.

NORM FRANTZMAN MEMORIAL

Dear Brothers:

Today I attended Norm Frantzman's memorial service along with 10 or 11 other brothers. Most of us didn't know Norm's partner, Janet, before today, but we were able to express our condolences to her. She was delighted to see so many of us there.

The memorial was "chaired" by Janet's brother, Ernest Del, who himself shared a loving relationship with Norm. A number of Norm's friends and acquaintances spoke glowingly of Norm as kind, generous, capable and loving. Our own Dave Peterson spoke on behalf of the fraternity and honored Norm by reading "The True Gentleman."

After the memorial, we all went to Norm's gravesite and a color guard from the Air Force went through the flag folding ceremony, followed by taps played on the bugle. It was very touching.

Norm went out too soon, but if he was watching the proceedings today he would have been proud and pleased. It was quite the fitting memorial.
